A responsible rafting visit respects the river, local communities and the operating rules. Choose a clearly identified provider, follow the crew's instructions and keep waste out of the water. Small planning choices can reduce unnecessary impact.

Leave less behind

Keep packaging and personal waste secured and dispose of it appropriately after the trip. Do not throw food, bottles or other items into the river. Ask where waste can be left if you are unsure.

Bring only what you need. A loose item is both potential litter and something that can be lost during the outing. The packing checklist helps you keep belongings simple.

Respect the river as a shared place

The Ganga is part of everyday life and holds cultural and religious significance. Be considerate when moving through riverside communities, taking photographs and using public spaces.

Avoid loud disturbance at accommodation and riverside areas. Ask before photographing identifiable people, and do not assume every bank is open for unrestricted access.

Follow operating decisions

Choose a provider that can explain its current authorisation and procedures. Do not seek a trip that ignores restrictions, and do not pressure a guide to run a section or optional activity when it is unsuitable.

Read operator selection and season planning. Respecting a cancellation can be part of a responsible visit.

Consider the whole holiday

If you combine rafting with a stay, check the property's location and services. Do not infer legal river access or a permitted camp from the word “riverside.” Ask practical questions through camping and rafting guidance.

Use shared transfers where an appropriate arrangement is available, but do not compromise screening or group suitability simply to fit into a departure.

Be honest in reviews

Describe the trip you actually took: date, route, communication and how the service was handled. Avoid claiming that your positive experience proves every outing is safe. Useful detail helps future travellers ask better questions.
