Wear clothes suitable for getting wet and footwear that stays secure, then follow the operator's advice for the weather on your date. Keep a complete dry change ready for afterwards. Packing well helps you avoid discomfort and unnecessary valuables on the river.
Clothing for the river
Ask about the clothing and extra layers recommended for your trip. Quick-drying materials can be practical, while heavy clothing can become uncomfortable when soaked. Fit matters: clothing should allow movement without loose items interfering with equipment.
For colder dates, check whether thermal equipment is required or supplied. Do not assume that a wetsuit, jacket or other layer is included in the quoted price. See winter planning.
Footwear and loose items
Ask which footwear the operator accepts. Avoid making your own assumption that loose sandals or flip-flops will remain on your feet. Tell the team if you need special footwear or have mobility concerns.
Remove loose jewellery and ask how glasses should be managed. A retaining strap may help with ordinary movement, but does not guarantee that glasses will be protected during a river incident.
A practical packing list
| Item | Plan |
|---|---|
| River clothing | Confirm weather-appropriate layers |
| Footwear | Check the operator's requirements |
| Dry clothes | Include underwear and a dry layer for afterwards |
| Towel | Keep with the dry belongings |
| Booking details | Save reporting instructions and contact |
| Personal medication | Discuss necessary access privately in advance |
| Water/refreshments | Ask what is permitted and provided |
| Phone and wallet | Leave behind or use an agreed storage arrangement |
Phone bag, water and requested storage
Water and a waterproof bag for a phone are available. Storage for bags and extra clothing can be arranged on request; ask beforehand where items will be left and collected. The phone bag is not a luggage bag or guarantee against damage or loss. Photos and videos cost extra.
Keep electronics out of the decision
A waterproof pouch is not proof that a phone will survive whitewater or remain attached. Ask about the operator's photo service and storage arrangements before taking an expensive device. See photos and phones.
Pack for the full day
Your transfer vehicle, changing area and finish location may differ. Ask where the dry bag remains and when you can retrieve it. Take only what is needed and keep valuables to a minimum.
Before leaving your accommodation, confirm the meeting point and read the safety guide. If you are unsure about required clothing, ask the booking team rather than buying equipment that may not be suitable.
